St Marina quarter developed after the Christian reconquest with the construction of the main parish church in the area of the now disappeared Colodro gate. Of the ancient city wall surrounding the north-eastern part of the historic city centre there are various remains, such as La Malmuerta Tower, which dates from the 15th century and which was joined to the fortress by means of an arch, still remaining.

Outside the city walls, the Carmelites founded a convent in 1613. Its church, St Cayetano's  was modified during the 18th century. The wall paintings are the most interesting feature of this church and can be seen on the ornamental covers and roof, which distinguish this church from other Cordovan Baroque churches.

The typical Cordovan character of St Marina as a residential area is reflected in the survival of its traditional architecture. The most significant example of this is the house situated at Nº 6 of Marroquíes Street and la Lagunilla Passing-House, which gives access through one house to the next street without having to go round the block.

In the heart of the quarter is St Marina Parish Church, an outstanding example of early Gothic style which distinguishes the Cordovan churches built after the Christian reconquest. The buttresses of its atypical facade are complemented by Mudejar, Gothic and Renaissance elements. Opposite the church stands the monument devoted to the famous bullfighter Manolete funded by the Cordovan people in 1956, six years after his tragic death.

Near this typical Cordovan part of the city, (so often reproduced in postcards), we can find the Convent Church of St Isabella, belonging to a Franciscan monastery, whose origins date back to the 15th century. Despite taking two centuries to complete the church, the main chapel is the most significant part as it holds the Baroque relief of the Annunciation, by the artist Pedro Roldan.

The palace of Viana Marquises is an excellent example of the power of the nobility in the St Marina quarter, a medieval house with Mannerist additions such as its facade and the stairway. The building extends over twelve typical courtyards with a diversity of plant arrangements and several rooms, stables and dining halls. The furniture, paintings, earthenware and tapestry collections are also worth attention.

The Augustinian order was also in St Marina and founded a monastery from which only the church remains, which was modified during the Baroque period. St Agustín Church is well known for the quality of its wall paintings that cover the vaults. The church housed one of the most admired images in Cordova, a Madonna called La Virgen de las Angustias, the final work of the famous sculptor Juan de Mesa. This image is still worshipped these days in St Paul's Royal Monastery.
